What is UX Website Design and Why is it Important?

User experience (UX) design is the process design teams utilize to drive the strategy and creation of products to provide meaningful and relevant experiences to the user. This is a delicate integration of branding, usability, and functionality.

The difference between UX and UI

There is often a misinterpretation of the two strategies.

“User interface (UI) design is the process designers use to build interfaces in software or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style. Designers aim to create interfaces that users find easy to use and pleasurable. UI design refers to graphical user interfaces and other forms—e.g., voice-controlled interfaces.” (source)

Interaction Design

UI design, while very important, is considered a subset of UX. When we are designing for the user we are bringing together multiple variables to in turn – create and experience with a branded product.

User experience (UX) refers to any interaction a user has with a product or service. UX design considers each and every element that shapes this experience, how it makes the user feel, and how easy it is for the user to accomplish their desired tasks. (source)

Why is UX So Important for your Website?

Let’s begin with some statistics.

  • Intentional and strategic user experience has the potential to raise conversion rates by as much as 400%.
  • 74% of people are likely to return to a website if it is optimized for mobile.
  • Every $1 invested in UX results in a return between $2 and $100.
  • 52% of online shoppers claim that quick page loading influences their loyalty to a site.

Let’s bring our heads up now from the stats and look at the bigger picture here. Your website, as I will state many times, exists to generate you leads – not to simply look pretty. If the goal is to generate qualified leads, and we will get into qualification strategy down the road, the way in which we achieve that goal would look a little something like this:

  1. Understand what your potential client is looking for in terms of a solution
  2. Ensure your product/service and messaging is speaking to their challenge
  3. Research and map out their buyer’s journey to the best of your ability (future campaigns and proper tracking will bring data to optimize)
  4. Create a blueprint for success as it concerns the layout of your website’s content and calls to action (CTAs) example of a CTA is “Try Our Demo Today” or “Schedule a Free Assessment”
  5. Design the site to align with your branding and utilize design tactics to enhance your CTAs
